- 1 9 inch pie shell
- 1 envelop gelatin
- ¼ cup cold water
- 1 cup milk
- 2 egg yolks
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1tsp vanilla
- 1 cup dates
- ¾ cup whipping cream – whipped stiff
- Soften 1 envelop gelatin in ¼ cup cold water
- Beat milk, egg yolks, sugar and salt.
- Cook in double boiler over hot water stirring constantly until it coats a metal spoon.
- Add softened gelatin, stir until dissolved.
- Cool in the refrigerator stirring occasionally until thick.
- Add vanilla, dates and whipped cream.
- Beat 2 egg whites until slight mounds form,
- Add 2 Tablespoons sugar gradually beat until glossy peaks form.
- Put into pie shell, sprinkle with a little nutmeg
- Cool at least one hour.
- Serve with whipped cream.
