- 2 1/4 cups flour (sifted)
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder [make sure it is fresh]
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cups Crisco (butter flavored) shortening or butter
- 2 1/4 cups brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup nuts – walnuts or pecans (chopped)
- 1 6 oz. pkg chocolate chips (1 cup) or double this
- 1 teaspoon real vanilla
Pan: 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 – greased
Oven: 325′
Time: 30 minutes
- Melt shortening
- Cool shortening
- Chop nuts
- Cream together shortening, sugar, vanilla, and eggs
- Sift together dry ingredients
- Mix in dry ingredients
- Add nuts and chocolate chips
- Pour into greased pan
- Bake at 325′ 30 minutes
- Cool in pan
- Cut into bars while warm
