Butter Squares  


  • Butter Squares 
  • 2 cubes butter (1/2 lb.)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup walnuts – chopped
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (6 oz.)

Pan: jelly-roll (15.25 x 10.25 x .75) – well-greased

Oven: 350′

Time: 15 to 20 minutes

  • 1. Cream together butter and sugar.
  • 2. Add egg yolk.
  • 3. Add flour and vanilla.
  • 4. Spread out on baking pan.
  • 5. Press out evenly with the palm of hand.
  • 6. Bake 20 minutes.
  • 7. Remove from oven.
  • 8. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot cookies.
  • 9. Spread chocolate when is melts over cookies.
  • 10. Sprinkle nuts on top.
  • 11. Cut into 1.5 inch squares while cookies are warm.
  • 12. Cool cookies on rack.
