Oatmeal/Molasses Cookies - Woody's Favorite

Julia's Preferences

4 cups sifted flour

1 Tablespoon baking soda

1/2 tablespoon salt

4 cups quick-cooking rolled oats

1 1/4 cups sugar

1/2 Tablespoon ground ginger

1 cup melted unsalted butter

1 cup dark molasses

2 eggs

1/8 cup hot water

1 1/2 cups raisins

1 cup walnuts - chopped

1 package raw sugar for the tops

 

Pan: cookie sheets - lightly greased

Oven: 375'

Time: 8 to 10 minutes

Cookie cutter 3"

  1. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt.

  2. Mix oats, sugar, and ginger in a very large bowl.

  3. Stir in butter, molasses, eggs, hot water, dry ingredients, raisins and nuts.

  4. Work dough with hands until well mixed.

  5. Add the more flour if needed.

  6. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness.

  7. Cut dough with 3" glass.

  8. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.

  9. Brush with water and sprinkle with raw sugar.

  10. Bake.

  11. Remove from cookie sheets.

  12. Cool on racks.

  8. Cut dough with 32 oz. plastic cup with 3.5 to 4 inch top.

  9. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.

  10. Brush with water and sprinkle with raw sugar.

  11. Bake.

  12. Remove from cookie sheets.

  13. Cool on racks.
