Bill's Cornbread


3/4 cup flour
1 cup milk
1/4 cup butter-flavored Crisco
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/8 cup yellow corn meal
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg
corn - optional
jalapeno peppers - optional
cheese - optional (extra sharp cheddar, California pepper, taco)
green chilies - optional

Pan: Pyrex 9" pie plate
Oven: 400 - rack at top position
Time: 20 to 25 minutes - until top is nicely browned

1. Melt shortening in pie plate.
2. Mix all regular ingredients together.
3. Add optional ingredients - be sure not to add any more liquid.
4. Slosh melted shortening around sides of pie plate.
5. Pour excess into mix.
6. Fold it in well.
7. Pour mix in pie plate.
8. Bake until top is nicely browned.
9. Cut in 8 pieces.
10. Serve with butter.
